Accessibility!

I am extremely passionate about making the therapy space and my practice as accessible as possible.

If you have additional access needs or have further questions please reach out and I will do what I can to meet your needs.

Ay Up Georgina Therapy Studio

Chronic illness, disability, or neurodivergence and therapy sessions

Therapy can be hard to access when chronically ill, disabled, or neurodivergent. Navigating chronic health and disabilities can make it difficult to attend therapy, especially if just getting into the studio takes a lot of energy or causes pain.

a woman holding a cup of tea is waving at her camera. She is sitting at her table and smiling with her hair pulled back and wearing glasses.

If you would prefer to be solely online we can have our sessions online via video call from the comfort of your home. No commuting to the therapy space taking up your energy for the day.

If you would prefer in person therapy but have concerns about your health and wellbeing, we can use a more flexible approach. We can have our sessions in person but able to move online if needed. This can be helpful for health flares or when getting to the therapy space feels inaccessible.

Getting to the Studio:

a woman, wearing a jumper, leggings, and trainers, is crossing the road in a city. She is looking over her shoulder and has long brown hair

Getting to the studio by walking or with support of a mobility aid:

The studio is located in The Carousel, a community arts building, at the bottom of Hockley just before Sneinton market. It is accessible by walking from the city centre or from multiple bus routes.

Someone is driving a car and looking at a map in the city.

Getting to the studio by car:

There is parking out front of the building for blue badge holders. Please be mindful that these spots of often full.

If you do not have a blue badge there is paid parking at sneinton market car park which is 0.2 miles from The Carousel.

Getting to the studio by bus:

The Carousel is a short distance from many buses going to Nottingham city centre. The closest bus is accross the street at Hockley H7 bus stop with lavender and red busses stopping there.

Once you have arrived at The Carousel!

There is a window that says “art therapy” on it with text saying “right the doorbell when you arrive” with an arrow to the bottom right corner of the window to a doorbell. To the right is a door with text “this is our main door I will let you in”

When you get to The Carousel, push the doorbell in the bottom right corner of the Art Therapy window. This lets me know that you have arrived!

Since The Carousel is a locked building (you need an access code to open the front door) I will let you in and welcome you to come to the therapy studio, a private room on the left when you come into the building.

There is a ramp to access the building and no steps throughout the building and access to the therapy room is completely accessible.

While the therapy room is completely accessible, there is a steep ramp to our gender neutral and private bathroom which is on the lower level of the building.

I have cozy lamp lighting with warm lightbulbs and a large window behind soft pink curtains that provides lots of natural soft light If you find you want the studio brighter I have a light above the table that can be turned on.

Temperature!

During Warm Weather:

I have an AC unit in the studio to keep the studio from getting too hot. It is pretty noisy so I turn it on between clients and then have a small fan running during the session.

If it becomes too hot in the room we can always turn the AC back on.

During Cold Weather:

I have a small heater in the studio to keep the studio from getting too cold. With the studio being a small room it holds its heat well and stays cozy.

If you are still cold or would like another comfort item to be warmer I have a fuzzy blanket and an electric heating pad.

Noise

Due to being in a co-working and community arts space there may be noise outside of the therapy room. This noise is rarely bothersome and rarely impact sessions.

Majority of the time the studio is very quiet but when charities or organisations are using the other spaces in the building it there can be some background noise.

If you need a very quiet session the earlier sessions tend to be the quietest.

If there is an odd time The Carousel is a bit louder than normal I may pause the session to ask other people using the building if they could be mindful of us needing a quieter space.

Covid/Illness Caution

I have a box of face masks available for myself or for clients to use if requested.

I am covid conscious and I test anytime I suspect illness and I regularly clean the studio space.

an image of a person with a black face mask and a grey hat. They have a neutral look on their face and are wearing a black jacket and a black shirt with green monstera leaves on it.

If you are feeling unwell with symptoms of cold or flu on the day of your session (sneezing, fever, coughing, etc) please email me to reschedule your session or to have an online session for that day (if you are well enough, though I recommend resting when ill.)

This is to protect all people who use the therapy space, especially those with autoimmune conditions or are higher risk for illness.

This is an exception to my cancellation policy, any payments for the cancelled session will go to the following session when rescheduled.

Calendar for Sessions

I work alongside Nottingham School Schedules. This means we have a break in our therapy schedule every 6-8 weeks. Often during a two week break I offer sessions during one of the weeks and let clients know of availability closer to the time. If you need to reach out to me during a break I am available via email.

Many people find a break helpful and restful. Others may find the break disruptive and unhelpful. If you think having a week off of therapy every few months would not be helpful I understand if you would rather go to another therapist for services.

For clients who are on a Monday - I reschedule sessions during bank holiday weeks so we can both enjoy the bank holiday but sessions are not missed.

I take breaks often to ensure I rested and well so I can be the best therapist I can be for my clients.

I will try my best to put things in place to accommodate you.
